3. What have you learned from your audience feedback?

MAIN TASK - QUESTIONS

1. Please select your gender.
It was important to ask this question as one of the first within the questionnaire because of the specific target audience that I had chosen for my film trailer. It was key to ensure that I was aware what gender the participants were, so that I could get accurate results on the main gender that I aimed to target - in this case females. Knowing the gender enabled me to get both male and female responses and allowing me to tell the difference.

2. Please select your age.
This question was asked because of the target audience that I had chosen for my film trailer. The target audience's feedback is most important because of the fact that the film trailer was aimed at them. This means that their reviews/feedback is key to indicating whether I have been successful or not.

3. Rating scale questions:
 - Did you enjoy watching the film trailer?
This question is one of the most important questions within this questionnaire. This is due to the fact that if the audience did not enjoy the trailer, then they are not likely to go and see the film which results in Webb Productions losing out. It is important for the audience to enjoy the film so that the production company can make money and create awareness of their film and their company. If the audience did not enjoy the film, the film would not have good feedback and therefore not meet the standards required. If they do however enjoy the film, it would mean that I have successfully developed and challenged existing conventions found within the romance films.

 - Did it grab your attention?
It is important for a film trailer to grab the audience's attention. This is due to the fact that if their hooked onto the trailer, it may encourage them to go and watch the film. I decided to ask this question because I thought that it would be useful to know whether the film trailer was good or different enough to capture the attention of the audience. The attention of the audience is important because it makes them intrigued by it and leaves them wanting to know more/what happens within the film.

 - Did you want to to know more about the film?
This is another important question found within this questionnaire. If the audience do not want to know more then it means that they're not interested in following up on the trailer. This therefore means that I have not used enough enigmas which encourage them to want to check the film out/check information about the release/storyline of the film. If they give positive feedback and indicate that they do want to know more, it means I have been successful in terms of using enigmas to intrigue the audience.

 - Was in the film trailer informative?
It is not hugely important for the film trailer to be informative due to the fact that if there is too much information present, then the audience will already be able to see how it ends and therefore won't see the point in attending the release or won't see the point in watching the film. I have tried to inform the audience a little in terms of the path in which the storyline goes down, without actually giving away too much. If they rate it in the middle, then I have succeeded in doing what the aim was.

 - Were you able to understand the basics of the storyline from within the trailer?
This question has been asked to ensure that the audience are aware of the storyline that the trailer uses without actually giving away exactly what happens within the film. It also ensures that they are aware of the path that the trailer goes down without actually informing the audience about the ending of the trailer. If the feedback indicates that they understand it, I would be successful in terms of getting it across to the audience. If the feedback is negative, the this means that I have not given them enough of the storyline for them to understand.

 - Would you go and watch the film?
This is perhaps the most important part of the questionnaire. This question is very important because it indicates whether I have been successful in creating a buzz about the film and also whether I have encouraged them to go and watch it. If the feedback indicates that the audience want to watch the film, then I have successfully developed and challenged common conventions as well as used enigma codes to make them to want see the film.

4. Were there any aspects of the film trailer that you found distressing?
This question is something that I decided to include purely because of the storyline present. The storyline is reflective of real life and therefore some people may feel uncomfortable or distressed when watching the trailer or film.

5. What was your favourite part/feature within the film trailer?
This question has been created purely for me to understand what the audience think I have done well/successfully. This gives them an opportunity to praise the outcome of the film trailer and therefore highlight the key parts you have done well.

6. Is there any part of the film trailer that could've been improved?
This question is key when it comes to trying to improve my work and trying to make it better. This question gives the audience the opportunity to give their own opinion and gives them the opportunity to not answer the question. If the audience were to skip this question, then it would indicate that I had successfully included common conventions and features found within existing romance film trailers.

7. Were you able to tell what the genre of the film was through the trailer?
This is a really important question that I decided to ask because of the aim of the film trailer. I had created the trailer based on existing romance film conventions and features and put a great deal of research into the genre and if it cannot be found within the trailer, then I have not successfully understood the criteria for the romance genre.

8. Did you think that the trailer reflected real life?
I had decided to include this question because I had based the storyline on real life events that had occurred. I had tried to make the trailer as realistic as possible in order for the audience to be able to relate to the story and the main character/characters found within the trailer. It is important for the audience to relate to the situation because they are more likely to have a emotional connection with the film trailer and therefore go and watch the film.

9. Do you think that the trailer was successful in terms of the aim in promoting the film?
This question is important because I created the trailer purely to promote the film. The trailer was the main product and therefore was the most important part of trying to encourage the audience to watch the film. If I did not do this successfully, then it means that I have not spent enough time researching how film trailers are used to promote the films as well as how they become successful - making the audience want to watch the film.

10. Do you have any other comments, questions, or concerns about the film trailer?
This question has been created purely to allow for the audience to give their own opinion of the film trailer and allows for them to comment on something that may not of been present within the questionnaire. It gives them the ability to express their opinions and also indicates to me where I may've gone wrong or indicates what I might/might not of done well.

Feedback:
Audience feedback was used twice during the main task. It was firstly used to help decide the name of my film. It allowed me to get an unbiased opinion as they were able to hear the basic story line and ask questions prior to giving their answer. This therefore gave me a film title that was most appropriate to the film - according to the audience. Looking at the audience feedback, I can tell that everybody who watched my film trailer would go and watch the film if it came out. The ratings from each scale were 4 and 5 (five being the best) apart from one questionnaire which showed a 3 when asked if they enjoyed watching the trailer. This was the only 3 that was given. This therefore indicates that I did a good job and made a film trailer that related to the audience and allowed for them to connect with it. The answers show that the audience only had a couple suggestions as to what could be improved within the film trailer. It also showed different elements in which they enjoyed - including the music, different shot types and the slow-mo effect.

The audience that answered the questionnaire were the target audience that I had originally designed the film trailer for. This was an huge factor when evaluating the film trailer as the target audience was one of the most important parts of the researching stage and the marketing stage of the trailer. The audience would more likely to watch the film trailer/go watch the film if they were more interested in the story line/genre of the film trailer. The important questions within the questionnaire were ones that asked about the recognition of the genre, reflection of life and success in terms of promoting the aim. In every single one of the questionnaires, the audience chose the 'yes' option. This meant that I completed the intended aims of my film trailer which was to make it as realistic as possible while ensuring that the genre was distinctive and recognisable enough for the target audience.

I have learnt that I could make improvements to my film trailer. The feedback from the target audience indicates that I could help to improve the outcome of my trailer by changing/doing a few things differently. One of the things that I could improve in my film trailer is the narration. A questionnaire response informed me that the narration is not all the same level volume and therefore doesn't sound professional. This is something that I did not realise at the time and now I know that I could have edited the volume levels more and then it would be better for the audience. They also said that I could have improved the film trailer by ensuring that the company logo was on the screen for a little bit longer prior to disappearing off the screen. This was something that I had tried to accomplish but had difficulty with the timings.

ANCILLARY TASKS - QUESTIONS

1. Please select your gender.
This question has been asked because of the target audience that I have chosen. If the questionnaire was filled out by the target audience, it helps me with the feedback because that is what the film was specifically designed/created for. If I get a male answering the questionnaire, it will not really be relevant because it is not the intended target audience so the answers are considered, but not really taken note of.

2. Please select your age.

It is also important to get the rough age section of the person doing the questionnaire because of the target audience in which the film is intended for. It is important to get a mix of ages, but also to focus purely on that age group so that I can get some accurate results.

3. Magazine - rating scale questions:
 - Does the magazine cover promote the film successfully?
The main aim of the magazine cover is to promote the romance film that I created. It was therefore important that I successfully included conventions and features commonly found within both existing magazine covers, as well as existing romance film covers. If the feedback was negative, it would mean that I did not develop the conventions well enough to make it appealing for the audience.

 - Does the main image represent the genre of the film easily?
It was important that the main image represented the genre of the film. I had to ensure that the image created a 'loved up' atmosphere to allow for the audience to understand that the genre I had chosen was romance. If they did not give positive feedback, then it meant that I did not create a image that was as romantic as it could've been. I did look into existing romance film magazine covers and tried to include the type of positions that were found.

 - How do you rate the positioning of the text found on the cover?
It is important to ensure that the positioning of the text is representative of existing romance film magazine covers because otherwise it would not be realistic or resemble what it should do. By asking this question, it allows for the audience to indicate whether I have positioned the text in the places that they are commonly found. If the audience indicate that I have, it shows that I have followed existing conventions.

 - How do you rate the graphics found on the cover?
It is important that the graphics represent the genre of my film. This question therefore allows for the audience to inform me whether they think that the graphics suit the theme of the magazine - which in this case is genre. If they rate it low, it indicates to me that I haven't thought or researched enough about the appearance/position of the main character and the boyfriend enough.

 - Does the magazine look realistic?
It is important that the magazine cover looks as realistic as possible due to the fact that the audience would not be interested if the magazine cover didn't look professional enough. If the magazine cover looks realistic and looks like existing magazine covers, then it means that I have successfully understood what should be featured. It also encourages the audience to want to see the film if the cover looks realistic and looks like it has been professionally created.

 - Does the magazine cover make you want to watch the film?
This is the key question to the questionnaire. This is due to the fact that it is important for the magazine cover to reflect the film and use enigmas to make the audience want to go and watch the film. If the audience give positive feedback, it means that I have successfully achieved the aim of the magazine cover - which was to help promote the film.

4. Poster - rating scale questions:
 - Does the film poster promote the film successfully?
This is a key question when asking about the poster because the idea of creating the poster was purely the promote the film that I had decided to create. If I receive positive feedback, it means that I have successfully achieved the intended aim of the poster. If I were to receive negative feedback, it would indicate that I had not used/included the relevant information about the film and therefore failed to promote the film in a successful way.

 - Does the main image reflect the genre well?
It is important for the main image to reflect the genre otherwise there would be no point in creating a poster. This is due to the fact that you're not giving the correct information - so the audience will be given false information and may be disappointed if they go and see the movie and expect something different. If positive feedback is received, it means that I have successfully taken an image and ensured that it relates to the theme of my film by researching about existing romance film posters.

 - How do you rate the positioning of the text compared to existing film posters?
This is also an important question - similarly to the same question asked about the magazine. The position of the text is important when looking at a poster because there are specific places that the text should be - i.e. the billing block etc. It is important to have the text placed in the correct area to ensure it looks as realistic as possible. If I get positive feedback, it means that I have successfully researched existing romance film posters and have implied them well.

 - How do you rate the graphics on the poster compared to existing film posters?
This question is similar to the main image question found within questionnaire. It focuses on the graphics of the poster and allows for the audience to rate the graphics including design, main image, etc. It will inform me if I have successfully captured and placed the graphics in the correct place and whether the audience think that I have done a good job with the graphics.

 - Does this poster look realistic?
It is important that the poster looks realistic and features common conventions of existing romance film posters. This question is therefore important in terms of seeing whether I have achieved the aim of making it look like other existing posters. If I receive positive feedback, it means that I have used the research well and created a poster that contains what should be featured within a real-life poster.

 - Does the film poster encourage you want to see the film?
This is a huge section within this questionnaire and is probably the most important question present. It is important to ensure that the poster uses enough enigmas to persuade the audience to want to go and see the film. If the feedback indicates that they do want to go and watch it, it tells me that I successfully achieved the intended aim of the poster. If the feedback is negative, it tells me that I have persuaded the audience well enough through enigmas.

5. What is your favourite part/feature found within the magazine cover?
This question within the questionnaire is purely just to praise myself for the work that I had done with the magazine cover. It allows for the audience to tell me their opinion while allowing me to understand and see what I have done well with the magazine cover and what people think I've done well. I also think that doing this question allows for the audience to say whatever answer they feel like saying in relation to the cover.

6. Do you think that there could be any improvements for
the magazine cover? (is so, please state below)
This encourages the audience to inform me whether they think there can be any improvements within the magazine cover. It comes as an evaluation question in terms of letting me know what I could do to improve on my work and what I could have done better to ensure that my work was at the best possible level is could be at. If no improvements are written, it informs me that I have successfully completed what I had aimed to do.

7. What is your favourite part/feature within the film poster?
Similarly to question 5, this question is purely for myself to praise something that the audience like or something that they think works well. This question allows for positive feedback towards myself to encourage me to continue to complete work like I have previously done in order to be successful.

8. Do you think there could be any improvements for the film poster? (is so, please state below)
This encourages the audience to indicate if there is anything that could be improved while also indicating to me what I need to do next time to ensure that the poster is realistic enough and features enough information to inform the audience. If they do not state any improvements, then it means that I have successfully used the conventions found within existing romance film posters.

9. Do you have any other comments, questions, or concerns about the film poster or magazine cover?
This question is important because it allows for the audience to give their own opinion and also informs me about the pros and cons of my ancillary tasks that I created. It also gives the audience the opportunity to say exactly what they want too and therefore encourages them to say a few words or ask a question based on the work that I have presented to them. It therefore allows for me to see what I did well as well as what could be improved if I were to re-do the magazine cover or film poster.

Feedback:
Audience feedback was extremely important for the ancillary tasks. I used audience feedback twice during the two projects. The first feedback I received from the audience was to help with the name of my magazine. I needed to get the best name for the magazine and therefore asking the audience to pick from a selection of potential names. The second set of audience feedback came from the questionnaire which was used to evaluate what I have learnt from the experience. The audience feedback indicated that the audience thought the poster and magazine cover were realistic and that they promoted the film well. The questions containing the rating scales help to indicate whether I have completed the aim of the tasks. Apart from one questionnaire, the scaled questions were featuring both four and five numbers. This means that I have impressed the target audience and that I have created two media products that have been successful. The audience who have answered the questionnaires are all female and are aged 18-31. This is important because it is the gender and age range that I had originally planned the media products for. Their feedback is therefore a lot more important that any particular feedback from anyone.

I have learnt that there could be improvements for my ancillary tasks. The audience feedback indicates to me that I have done a good job with most things but improvements could be made to make it even better. Some of the audience feedback informs me that I could of used a different background because of the colour similarity to the background and hair colour of the woman. I think that this is a key point and may've enhanced the outcome of my poster a little bit more. The feedback also informed me that I could have ensured that the hair of the male actor could be moved to show the eyes of him rather than the hair and beanie to be in the way of the shot.

Conclusion:
I have learnt that I could have made improvements within both the main task and ancillary tasks. Although there are a couple improvements that could be made towards my coursework, I think that I have learnt that I have managed to create a film trailer, film poster and magazine cover that is reflective of real life and allows for the female target audience to connect well towards it - this was the aim of the media products prior to production and development.
